Surviving the First Week Away

Writer's picture: Ashley ReneeAshley Renee

The first week of Tae at the police academy has came and gone. Four nights away and two nights home. It was a "short" week though I can't say that is felt that way.

The week went off without any monumental surprises. I survived. But missing DeVante with so many things that I did throughout the week. I kept myself busy with heading to the gym each night after work. I would then arrive home with only a few hours until bedtime (I go to bed early, this girl needs her beauty rest!). The night was always ended with a call from Tae. Best part of the day!

Every opportunity I had to talk to him, DeVante was a chatter box. I love it. It is so encouraging to hear about his day, what he is learning, and how excited he is about this opportunity. I am just to excited for him and so happy to be by his side supporting him.

I was overjoyed to have him home on Friday. We spent the weekend together, as we always do. I can already tell the time we spend together the next 16 weeks will be cherished.

Tonight starts week two. Saying goodbye was not easy but we are ready. DeVante and I both agree this is only going to make us stronger. Tae texting me after he left, "Miss you already, I hate leaving you there" was the comfort I needed.

This week will also be a "short" week. I will be joining DeVante, his family, my mom, and Amya on Thursday for him to be sworn in. I can't wait to see him and in uniform...OH MY GAWD!

This life stills seems surreal but I wouldn't want it any other way.

We have been waiting for this for far too long.
